ACTS
Many years ago someone taught me the acronym a-c-t-s as a sort of form for my prayers to God. It is based on the essential elements found in the Lord’s Prayer.
A Acknowledge who God is. He is King. He is Lord, master and also our(my) father
C Confess, confess my sins. Tell God where I failed. Admit my weaknesses. He knows it already but sometimes I need to say it anyway.
T Thanks. Thank God for all he has done for me. Salvation is a gift from God. Life is a gift, family and friends, food, clothes, housing, and households all are gifts from a loving God and my heart is made thankful when I recount all he has done in my life.
S Supplication. Ask God to meet my needs. Remembering this, “You have not because you ask not..” Jesus said to ask and keep on asking. Like a persistent widow seeking justice, keep at it.
All of this was brought back to my mind as I read Psalm 66 this morning.
Do you see the A-C-T-S in here?
“Come and listen, all you who fear God, and I will tell you what he did for me. For I cried out to him for help, praising him as I spoke. If I had not confessed the sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened. But God did listen! He paid attention to my prayer. Praise God, who did not ignore my prayer or withdraw his unfailing love from me.”
Psalm 66:16-20 – NLT
