Rain come today

“Rejoice, you people of Jerusalem! Rejoice in the LORD your God! For the rain he sends demonstrates his faithfulness. Once more the autumn rains will come, as well as the rains of spring.” Joel 2:23

I have never been more grateful for rain and it’s pair purifying ability than I am this autumn. We drove through some cloud bursts yesterday on the way back from Spokane and you could almost hear the earth and all the folks driving give a huge sigh of relief. The fires in west have left a lingering cloud of smoke. Our only hope was that the rain would come and wash the smoke out. It’s happening and now the air is cleaner and clearer.

Spiritual application time. The Holy Spirit is like the rain in our life. Sometimes our life, well at least my life gets chocked full of choking smoke from the troubles of the rest of the world. Smoke isn’t like the trouble of fires but it spreads and influences and affects many more than the people directly in harms way. We get affected by others troubles just knowing about them. The smoke comes in and blocks our vision, clutters our heads and hearts and can easily distract or disorient us.

The Holy Spirit comes into a believers life and gently raining, purifying the smoke until true vision is restored. I get all the stuff of what is going on up in my mind and I can’t see the the truth, that God is still in control, that he has a plan and a purpose and his plan will prevail, and that I still have a mission to tell the world about a God who loves them and sent his only son to die for them and was raised to life again.

Jesus bring the rain. Into my my world and put out the fires and into our smoke filled skies and clear away the smoke and into my own head and heart and clear away the confusion and chaos that wants to distract me from you, your plan and purpose for my life.

I am a man. I am an older man. I am a husband and a dad and a grandpa. I am a disciple of Jesus. Because I am a disciple of Jesus much of what I write is about him, and I usually end what I write with a question, do you the reader know that Jesus loves you? He does. He loves us all but he loves you specifically. He loves me specifically. What will you do with that information today?
