Who is the Boss of me?

Who is the boss of me?

When our kids were little we would hear this phrase many times, ” you’re not the boss of me!”

We don’t like having bosses, rulers, lords, people telling us what to do or not to do. Submitting to someone else’s leadership is a hard thing. We are a fiercely independent people. We want autonomy, We want independence, we don’t want to be told what to do.

As a Christian I have a big B Boss in God. I may feel autonomous but God is my master. He tells me what to do and how to live through his word, the bible and through his Holy Spirit speaking to me.

I was reminded of this relationship with God, this master/ servant relationship where I am not the master but the servant, as I read Psalm 123.

“Psalm 123New International Version (NIV)

Psalm 123

A song of ascents.

1 I lift up my eyes to you,

to you who sit enthroned in heaven.

2 As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master,

as the eyes of a female slave look to the hand of her mistress,

so our eyes look to the Lord our God,

till he shows us his mercy.

3 Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy on us,

for we have endured no end of contempt.

4 We have endured no end

of ridicule from the arrogant,

of contempt from the proud.”

Who is the boss of me? Who is the boss of you? What hope do I have for this life?

I have the hope that my boss, my master, my savior and God has my best interest at heart and if I submit to his leadership he will take care of my needs. I serve, I am a servant of, a very big Boss and that is a good thing.

I am a man. I am an older man. I am a husband and a dad and a grandpa. I am a disciple of Jesus. Because I am a disciple of Jesus much of what I write is about him, and I usually end what I write with a question, do you the reader know that Jesus loves you? He does. He loves us all but he loves you specifically. He loves me specifically. What will you do with that information today?
